Huangmei Opera originated from folk songs and tea-picking ditties in Huangmei County, Hubei, and flourished in Anhui Province. Known for its gentle, lyrical melodies and accessible storytelling, it is one of China's "Five Major Operas." Unlike the elaborate makeup of Peking Opera, Huangmei features simple, natural performance styles and focuses on romantic stories and everyday life. Its most famous work, "The Heavenly Match" (Tian Xian Pei), has been adapted into film.
