How This Classification Works
The eight domains above adapt the five-field framework of UNESCO's 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage — oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals and festivals, and craft knowledge — splitting performing arts into music, dance, drama, and the spoken-word category quyi to match how Chinese heritage registries actually catalogue entries.
The result is a map of 103 items: 44 inscribed on UNESCO lists and 59 recognized at the national level. Each domain page opens with that category's scope, then links every entry to its full profile covering history, technique, frequently asked questions, related masters, and the places where each tradition is still practiced.
